Dolls have typical 90’s “superstar” generic Barbie faces with large eyes, rooted lashes, and open smiles – with the exception of the Chinese Empress doll that has a modified “Kira” closed-mouth face. Bodies have the typical twist waist, straight-arms with angular shoulder movement, hips with straight back and forth movement, click-bend knees, and high-heel feet.

The “GREAT ERAS” series illustrates a variety of historically recognized fashion styles from select cultures or time frames. Each of the 10 dolls is complete with clothing representative of the selected era, with shoes and accessories as shown, plus a saddle stand with plastic round base inside the box. Each individualized storybook-type retail display/presentation box has a hinged solid front cover with Velcro-type closure. The inside covers are elaborately illustrated with historical summaries of the depicted fashion eras.

ITEMS INCLUDED IN THIS LOT #1:

    1. Gibson Girl (1993 / 3702 / 074299037023) – Created by artist Charles Dana Gibson, the “Gibson Girl” was a popular American illustration subject that became a national icon for a new, modern ideal of womanhood featured in magazines and on commercial products, setting a standard for beauty and fashion emulated by women across various social classes from the mid-1890s to World War I. The “Gibson Girl” was depicted as tall and athletic, yet gracefully elegant, with an air of self-confidence and independence. This Barbie version of the “Gibson Girl” features a smiling brunette lady with a casual updo and side curls, wearing typical turn-of-the-century attire of a loose-fitting lace blouse gathered at the waist and tucked into a full skirt of faux silk moire material with matching capelet. A lace parasol and ribbon-trimmed straw hat complete the look.
    2. 1920’s Flapper (1993 / 4063 / 074299040634) – Following World War I, the 1920’s was a time of economic boom in the West, triggering disruption of traditional lifestyles with wealth disparity, social extravagance, Prohibition, and speakeasies. Women’s fashion ideals drastically changed, with the formerly admired voluptuous figure giving way to the slender boyish form with straight, loose-fitting dresses. For the first time, dress waistlines dropped to the hip, and hemlines showed some leg, while popular hairstyles transformed from carefully maintained updos to short styled “bobs” with elaborate “spit curls” and lacquered “finger waves.” Attire for opulent underground clubs involved ornate beaded dresses with fringe that swayed and flapped with movement – perhaps giving birth to the nickname “flapper.” This Barbie version of a flapper wears an elaborate gold and white beaded and fringed straight dress with a coat trimmed in white fur, along with other accessories typical of that time. (The doll stand support is loose in the box, due to factory tape coming loose. Also the bottom corners and edges show some rubs and dings and other wear, but the box still displays well.)

ITEMS INCLUDED IN THIS LOT #2:

    1. Egyptian Queen (1994 / 11397 / 074299113970) – From 3,000 to 5,000 years ago, the 18th Dynasty during the time of King Tut is considered the Golden Age of Egypt, just a distant memory now, as evidenced by the Pyramids of Giza guarded by the Sphinx. Egyptian Queen Barbie represents that era with an elaborate bejeweled headdress sporting layered shaped pieces, a broad layered and beaded/jeweled “wesekh” or “usekh” collar typically depicted as being worn by both men and women, as well as deities. Gossamer blue material is gathered and draped strategically over her chest to coordinate with a blue and silver patterned skirt. (Box has a few minor stress creases on the front cover and some edge/corner wear but displays well.)
    2. Grecian Goddess (1996 / 15005 / 074299150050) – 5th Century BC in Greece marked a golden age of culture, art, and philosophy that also included everyday acknowledgement of the mythical gods and goddesses of Mount Olympus. Despite the incongruity of a blonde Barbie representing the goddess Athena, she wears what is presumably typical goddess attire for the region and time period – a flowing pleated white layered gown secured at the shoulders and embellished with an assortment of metallic decorations, topped off by an orchid cape trimmed with a stereotypical geometric Greek design. (Box has some minor creases/dents in back but otherwise is in good shape.)

  • Sale! Barbie: Great Eras Collection 2-Doll Lot #3 Medieval Lady & Elizabethan Queen /1993-1997 - (NRFB)

Barbie: Great Eras Collection 2-Doll Lot #3 Medieval Lady & Elizabethan Queen /1993-1997 – (NRFB)

Original price was: $45.00.Current price is: $35.00.

ITEMS INCLUDED IN THIS LOT #3:

    1. Medieval Lady (1995 / 12791/ 074299127915) – The Middle Ages or medieval period lasted approximately from the 5th to the late 15th centuries, beginning with the fall of the Western Roman Empire and transitioning into the Renaissance and the Age of Discovery. Typically known for castles, troubadours, Robin Hood, and knights in shining armor, feudal society was not all fun and games for the masses, but that didn’t stop proper ladies from dressing their best, especially when attending a feast at the king’s castle. Barbie is prepared for this social engagement wearing a deep blue velveteen gown with long draping sleeves and neckline trimmed in white fur to balance her elaborate two-point hat. (Box has some minor creases/dents in back and one side but otherwise is in good shape.)
    2. Elizabethan Queen (1995 / 12792 / 074299127922) – The Elizabethan Era, named for Queen Elizabeth I, daughter of King Henry VII and Ann Boleyn, spans her reign from 1558 to 1603, and is often referred to as England’s “Golden Age.” The period saw relative domestic stability, economic prosperity, and religious change. Arts and literature flourished, significantly with the debut of plays by William Shakespeare. It was also a time of rampant colonialism as England emerged as a major European power with overseas exploration following the defeat of the Spanish Armada. Elizabethan Queen Barbie wears a lavishly embellished and patterned gown typical of royalty at the time, with a cinched waist and fitted bodice, high ruffled collar, and wide sweeping skirt.

ITEMS INCLUDED IN THIS LOT #4:

    1. Southern Belle (1994 / 11478 / 074299114786) – The thin veneer of grace and charm of American genteel Southern society in pre-Civil War 1850’s was celebrated with lavish balls and ladies’ teas hosted in elaborate plantation settings. Barbie’s the belle of the ball in her pink and aqua-blue satin gown with low-cut neckline, fitted bodice, and sweeping hoop skirt draped with layers of tulle and bows and pearls. (Box top partially unglued but easy to fix.)
    2. Chinese Empress (1997 / 16708 / 074299167089) – China’s last dynasty, the Ch’ing Dynasty (1861-1908), was marked by turbulence, with Dowager Empress Tz’u-hsi reigning from 1644 to 1911. During the latter part of her reign, she attempted to bring China in line with European countries by establishing schools for boys and girls to learn both Chinese and European subjects. Chinese Empress Barbie wears an ensemble of the period that would have been similar to the empress’s garb – “Chao Guan” (“Manchu” hat), elaborate faux silk coat with dragon imagery over a “Chao Qua” jacquard dress, and slipper socks attached to molded hard soles mimicking what most likely would have been carved wooden shoe soles. (Box has some minor nicks and rubs on edges and corners but is structurally sound and displays well.)

ITEMS INCLUDED IN THIS LOT #5:

    1. Victorian Lady (1996 / 14900 / 074299149009) – The Victorian Era flourished in Western Europe and the United States from 1837 to 1901, and was named for Britain’s Queen Victoria, an iconic lady who reigned for 61 years with reserved sensibilities while doting on her family and keeping a close eye on political events. This fashion era was resplendent with sweeping ribbon-embellished bustled dresses, elaborated feathered headdresses, top hats, and cravats. Victorian Barbie wears a deep burgundy dress with a lace collar and tiered lace-trimmed skirt gathered in back to mimic a bustle and back train. (Box has a minor dented on bottom, and a top corner is curled up slightly, but otherwise is in good shape and displays well.)
    2. French Lady (1997 / 16707 / 074299167072) – The early 1800’s marked a time of opulence in France when Napoleon Bonaparte and Lady Josephine assumed rule of the country. Napoleon fostered a civil code, religious tolerance, and fair taxes, while German composer Beethoven rose to popularity in Europe. French Lady Barbie wears a wedgewood blue velveteen gown with a long column skirt channeling the classic elegance of ancient Greek architecture. (Box has a minor dent on front and a minor dimple on the back edge but otherwise is in good shape.)

Candi: Asian “Extravagance” /1996 OOAK Restyle – (Redressed, Repainted, Rebodied)

Original price was: $64.99.Current price is: $54.99.

RESTYLED – REDRESSED, REPAINTED, REBODIED. This 1996 Helena Hamilton Design Systemes Asian-sculpt Candi doll was originally styled by the doll team duo MiKelman and Paul David, and packaged/sold as “Elegance.”

This doll’s original face paint was removed and expertly repainted (we don’t know by whom). She’s a stunning lady with darkly outlined soft brown eyes and soft warm, pink lips. Her black poly/nylon hair has been taken down from the original back-bun updo and restyled loose to better soften and frame her beautiful face. She has been rebodied on an older “wasp waist” Fashion Royalty tall body without removable hands. The body is in fair-to-good shape with expected age-loosened hips and knees, no neck cracks detected, a small ship on the right outer knee, and the hands a bit lighter and pinker than the naturally color-aged body that almost perfectly matches this lovely lady’s face.

She will come with the clothing/accessories shown – a nicely tailored kimono with obi in warm floral-patterned reds and browns and oranges, long delicate gold chain red-bead dangle earrings, and black Barbie-type sling-back heels. • Sale! Courtney: Barbie Diaries /2006 H7591 - (Redressed)

    Courtney: Barbie Diaries /2006 H7591 – (Redressed)

Original price was: $4.99.Current price is: $3.99.

REDRESSED. The Mattel character name “Courtney” originally represented a redheaded friend of teen Skipper and was briefly changed to represent brunette friend of Barbie in the Fashion Fever era, briefly using the Lara face sculpt, and eventually destined to morph into the amusing villainous character, Raquelle, in the “Life in the Dream House” CGI animated web series. This Courtney, from the earlier CGI animated series, “The Barbie Diaries,” still retains remnants of the wide-eyed innocence of the original Courtney character in the teen Skipper era.

Courtney has large, lively green eyes, lavender eye makeup and an open smile with lavender lips. Her thick black waist-length hair with auburn streaks and bangs has been restyled, taken down from the original pigtails. She comes on her original pale pink belly-button body with click-bend knees and factory-inserted small plastic lavender hoop earrings. Her torso on side seams has a slight bit of pink staining that is barely noticeable. She wears a Xian-Xian (China “super model”) branded short-sleeve rib-stretch crew-neck crop top with raw hem, paired with a loose pleated cotton-blend lavender plaid flare mini skirt and flex-vinyl slip-on translucent purple slip-on ankle-strap high-heel sandals. Clothing items have back Velcro-type closures.

Hybrid: Mattel Blair “12 Dancing Princesses” Wearing “Beautiful Bridesmaid” Ensemble /2006 K4161 (Redressed, Rebodied Integrity Dynamite Girls)

    $29.99

REDRESSED, REBODIED. Very pale Mattel Lea sculpt, originally the sister Blair from “The 12 Dancing Princesses” series, has long soft wavy brunette hair in a half-up pony, a serene expression with lavender-blue eyes, soft lavender-pink eye shadow subtly enhanced with gold glitter, and soft medium pink lip color. This lovely lady is rebodied on an Integrity Toys Dynamite Girls body with newer style arms, removable hands, older style articulated knees, and “split toe” feet (somewhat smaller like original articulated Fashion Royalty prior to introduction of the “wasp waist” tall body). This body torso is similar in size and proportion to the typical Poppy Parker body.

Blair comes with a “Beautiful Bridesmaid” ensemble that includes:

    • DRESS – Lightweight cotton-poly blend material has a smooth feel. The light salmon-pink and white check pattern gives a soft feminine feel to this strapless midi-dress with crossover sweetheart neckline and nice quality back zipper. A bow-tied cascading side train of lace-trimmed sheer pink organza is permanently attached to the waistline for a formal/dressy look. This dress has a relaxed fit with gentle stitched gathered waistline and is designed for the Xian-Xian supermodel doll body, but can fit a variety of standard fashion doll shapes and sizes.

  • Hybrid: One World Project Prettie Girls "Lena" - (Dressed, Rebodied Poppy Parker Clone)

Hybrid: One World Project Prettie Girls “Lena” – (Dressed, Rebodied Poppy Parker Clone)

    $18.99

DRESSED, REBODIED. “Lena” of the Prettie Girls doll line was manufactured by One World Project, by Stacey McBride Irby, former designer at Mattel, responsible for the perennially popular “So In Style” doll line. This doll has been rebodied on a somewhat close color-matched clone body with proportions similar to standard flat-foot Integrity Poppy Parker – with some key differences in joint articulation. The neck is a tad shorter, elbows and knees have double joints that rotate, and the feet are shaped similar to Poppy Parker flat feet with articulated ankles. The waist has twist articulation, and the upper thighs near the hips have back/forth articulation.

Lena has sleek soft black shoulder-length hair styled in a rounded back cut that reaches mid-back, with feathered side-swept bangs, for a very fetching look. Her silver metallic plastic textured hoop earrings are factory-inserted. She comes with the outfit shown – a Mattel Barbie sleeveless jumpsuit made of printed cotton sheeting mimicking denim, with Velcro-type back closure and attached ribbon embellishments suggesting a front zipper closure and a hip belt. Pants legs are capri length with elastic hems and tiny gold metallic braided strings attached to suggest pull strings. Included gold semi-flex vinyl studded ankle heels slip on. (TIP: Use a small flat-head screwdriver or similar tool and gently slide between shoe and side of heel to coax off shoe rather than simply pulling off with force. While joints seem sturdy, this precautionary measure will help avoid breaking the ankle joint.) Made for belly-button Barbie, this clothing will fit a variety of similar size fashion dolls.

    Monogram: “Echelon” /2011 90923 – (Redressed)

    $79.99

REDRESSED. This sophisticated lady has her short blonde hair styled in a structured “bump” updo with center-part curtain side bangs that frame her aloof face. With applied lashes in pretty good shape, aqua green eye shadow, and bright pinkish-orange lips, this doll can easily blend in almost any fashion situation. She has a body similar to the Victoire Roux early body with medium bust and slender torso/hips similar to Poppy Parker. Her high heel feet have the “split toe” used on the original Fashion Royalty body and Model Behavior / NuFace early dolls. She still has her original plastic factory knee protectors in place and comes with the following items:

    • DRESS – Nicely tailored modernized vintage-style cap-sleeve dress with full skirt is constructed of premium cotton-blend fabric sporting a cheerful floral pattern in yellow, orange, purple, and green on an off-white background. Stud-style snaps secure the back. Dress bodice is fully lined, and skirt is lined with tulle, with the couturier’s label sewn in-seam. (Made by Ebay seller cajig2014 aka Yoly’s Designs.) TIP: For easy dressing, use a small flat-head screwdriver or similar stiff flat object to gently pry the snaps open and save your fingernails and the fabric from undue stress.
    • BELT – The removable belt of black real leather is attached to a square metal slide buckle studded with faux diamonds for a nice dressy upscale look. (Same couturier as above.)
    • JEWELRY – Earrings mounted on standard metal posts feature three dangle-strands of strung purple color-shift gems originally from a Joe Tai doll.
    • SHOES – Faux leather purple strappy pumps slip on and are secured in front with a bead-tipped strand that slides between the doll’s toes. (These shoes were designed for dolls like early Fashion Royalty with “split toes.”) These shoes will come packaged in a Joe Tai branded pink and white lift-top shoe box that can be used for storage and as a diorama prop.

This beautiful lady will make a great starter doll for enthusiasts new to Fashion Royalty or looking for legacy dolls, and will definitely be a welcome addition to any discerning collection.
