Description
ABOUT SILKSTONE: From the Mattel Barbie Fashion Model Collection designed by Robert Best, these are premium one-sixth-scale collector dolls manufactured/released 2000-2020. Each doll features a glam version of the original vintage Barbie face sculpt and comes with superior hair fiber and styling. The original Silkstone body is made of heavier, smoother material with a more luxurious feel than play vinyl dolls, with a classically traditional fashion silhouette, twist waist, and backward/forward shoulder and hip movement. Classic Silkstone dolls are a perennial favorite model for high-end doll couturiers and collectors.
*NOTE: It is best not to store/display dolls long-term with metal jewelry in direct contact with the doll vinyl, as metal (especially corroded/tarnished metal) can interact with chemicals used in the vinyl-making process and cause discoloration in the doll that is extremely difficult if not impossible to remove. Coating metal earring posts with non-reactive clear coating may help prevent discoloration.
RECOMMENDED SAFE WAYS TO REMOVE / REPLACE HEAD.
IMPORTANT: Silkstone doll heads are generally made of very stiff hard vinyl. In order to remove or replace the head, the head should be heated long enough to make the vinyl soft enough to squeeze and squish easily. This is necessary to help prevent breaking the mobile neck peg, or cracking the neck, or damaging the neck hole on the head during removal/replacement.
Boiled Water Method.
- Boil water in an electric water-heater kettle or pouring pot, or in a pan on the stove.
- IMPORTANT – Transfer boiled water to a receptacle (bowl or glass or cup) large enough to dip the doll head all the way into the hot water. DO NOT dip doll head directly in a pan that has been heated on the stove. If doll body touches sides of hot pan, it could melt and create permanent damage.
- Cover doll head and/or top of doll with a water-proof heat-resistant baggy like Ziploc or similar to prevent head from getting wet and messing up hair style.
- When head is easily squished, remove or replace as desired.
Hair Dryer Method. Doll head can be heated by directing hot air on highest sage setting toward the neck area and lower portion of the head. When it is squishy, it can be removed/replaced.
Heating Pad Method. This is the method we at DOLL-WORLD use. It requires a flat square or long electric heating pad, preferably with adjustable temperatures. Most heating pads come with LO/MED/HI settings. Best results are achieved with the highest setting. Fold the heated pad over the doll head completely until head is easily squished and then remove/replace as desired.
Removing the Head. It is important to remove the head carefully by squeezing the head to distort and open up the neck hole, then tilting slightly to dislodge the wing-hooks at the top of the neck pegs that rest inside the groove of the neck hole. Sometimes a very small flat-head screw driver can be used to ease the hooks out of the groove – making sure not to get too aggressive and damage the neck hole or crack the neck by applying too much pressure. Good luck!
